Construction Voyer to break ground in Laval as part of Natural Resources
Canada’s ecoENERGY Innovation Initiative Net Zero Energy demonstration project

What:
Construction Voyer invites the media to its groundbreaking event in Laval as part of a national demonstration project that will almost double the amount of Net Zero Energy homes in Canada. The intent is to demonstrate that Net Zero Energy homes can be built cost-effectively across Canada, on a community-level scale. Net zero homes produce at least as much energy as they consume.

Construction Voyer is the only builder from Quebec to be selected for the project. Construction Voyer will be building six Net Zero Energy condos for the project. The homes are expected to be completed in the winter of 2015/2016 and will be for sale to the general public during the summer months of 2015.

The event will feature politicians Guy Ouellette (Député de Chomedey), City Councilor for la Ville de Laval, Mr. Paolo Galati and representatives from Natural Resources Canada, Construction
Voyer, Owens Corning Canada and APCHQ – région du Montréal métropolitain (Montreal Homebuilders Association).

Over $4 million in funding and in-kind contributions from Natural Resources Canada’s ecoENERGY Innovation Initiative (ecoEII), Owens Corning Canada and the building industry will allow for the construction of at least 25 Net Zero Energy homes in four provinces.

Background:
NRCan will be providing $1.96 million in funding for professional services required for the planning, design and construction of the houses. The remaining funds will come from Owens Corning Canada, participating builders and the building industry in the form of in-kind contributions to fund the construction of the homes. The project, managed by buildABILITY Corporation, includes five builders across Canada: Construction Voyer (Laval, Quebec); Mattamy Homes Limited (Calgary, Alberta), Reid’s Heritage Homes (Guelph, Ontario); Minto Communities (Ottawa, Ontario); and Provident Development Inc. (Halifax, Nova Scotia).

Construction Voyer, founded in 1973, has built over 6,000 residential units: single-family
dwellings, condominiums and rental buildings. Although the company originally earned its
reputation primarily in Laval and cities along the northern belt, in 1998 it began expanding its activities onto the island of Montreal. Recently, Construction Voyer has developed an expansion plan to extend activities into new territories.
